Ruby Finds the Rainbow

After the rain stopped, Ruby ran outside. 'Where do rainbows come from?' she asked her dad. Dad smiled. 'See those tiny water droplets in the air? Sunlight sneaks inside each one. The light slows down and bends, bouncing around inside like a tiny mirror.' 'Then what?' asked Ruby. 'The light splits into all its hidden colors! Red bends a little, violet bends a lot. When the light comes back out, we see every color in a beautiful arc.' Ruby stared at the glowing colors stretching across the sky. 'So rainbows are sunlight and raindrops working together?' she whispered. 'Exactly,' said Dad.
